KUALA LUMPUR, 19 Feb 2025 – Yayasan PETRONAS, the social impact arm of PETRONAS, has mobilised assistance to communities affected by the recent severe flooding in Sarawak and Sabah via its Uplifting Lives Disaster Relief initiative.

Through the GLC/GLIC Demi Rakyat dan Negara (GDRN) network, Yayasan PETRONAS is supporting relief efforts across the hardest hit areas of Sarawak, distributing 600 Bantu Family Kits to affected families and communities there. The GDRN Bantu Family Kits, comprising comforters, rice cooker, jug kettle, blanket and other needs, were distributed in February to Kuching and Bintulu, respectively.

Its Chief Executive Officer, Shariah Nelly Francis said, “We have been working closely with various parties, including Social Welfare Department, PETRONAS colleagues in Sarawak and Sabah Labuan Regional Office as well as the GLC Demi Rakyat dan Negara (GDRN) network to ensure essential aid is provided to affected families in Sarawak as well as Sabah.”

GDRN is a network of government-linked companies and government-linked investment companies comprising Yayasan PETRONAS, Yayasan Hasanah, Yayasan Sime Darby, Yayasan TM among others, dedicated to driving sustainable social impact for the nation whilst also fostering a collaborative approach towards the dissemination of humanitarian aid and disaster recovery and preparedness support across Malaysia.

Aside from the collaboration with the GDRN Bantu network Yayasan PETRONAS in November 2024 had distributed 900 care packages to Jabatan Perkhidmatan Kebajikan Am (JPKA) Sabah and 600 care packages to Jabatan Kebajikan Masyarakat (JKM) depot in Kota Samarahan, Sarawak, thereby ensuring that affected communities and families receive immediate and essential support. This effort is in collaboration with the Social Welfare Department (JKM) and the National Disaster Management Agency (NADMA).

“Our hope is that these care packages will help alleviate challenges faced by flood victims currently housed in temporary evacuation centres (PPS),” she added.

Yayasan PETRONAS’ Uplifting Lives Disaster Relief initiative is part of PETRONAS’ efforts to deliver prompt and effective responses to disaster assistance needs.
